Tallinn Black Nights filmfest adds ‘Walnut Tree’ to Iranian lineup

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia has added ‘Walnut Tree’ feature film to its Iranian lineup.

The 24th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (POFF) in Estonia has added ‘Walnut Tree’ feature film to its Iranian lineup.

Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian’s ‘Walnut Tree’ will join Majid Majidi’s ‘Sun Children’ and animated short film ‘Eaten’ by Mohsen Rezapour to go on screen at the POFF, which is one of the biggest film festivals in Northern Europe.

Based on a true story, ‘Walnut Tree’ is a film about the chemical bombings of a region in northwestern Iran by the US-backed former Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein.

Written by Ebrahim Amini and Hossein Hassani, ‘The Walnut Tree’ enjoys famous Iranian actors Peyman Maadi, Mina Sadati and Mehran Modiri.

The film participated in the 38th Fajr Film Festival in February 2020 and garnered Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Director awards.

The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival hosts filmmakers and also journalists from around the world. The festival screens around 250 features and more than 300 shorts and animations each year.

The 24th edition of POFF will be held both in online and physical formats on November 13-29, 2020.
